Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Policy Statement

PJN evaluates manuscripts solely on their intellectual merit, without regard to authors' race, gender, nationality, religion, or institutional affiliation. PJN welcomes scholarly contributions from nurses and health professionals worldwide, and does not penalize authors for language limitations arising from working in a non-native language; any request for language editing is based on manuscript quality alone.

Research involving Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous Cultural Communities, or other communities with distinct collective rights or cultural protocols is expected to reflect culturally responsive engagement, consistent with Section 8 (Research Ethics and Participants). PJN encourages diverse representation among its editorial board, reviewer pool, and published authorship over time.

1. Scope and Applicability

This policy applies to all editorial evaluation, reviewer selection, and board composition decisions, and to PJN's engagement with authors and communities of diverse backgrounds.

2. Definitions

Non-Discrimination: The principle that editorial evaluation is based solely on scholarly merit, not an author's personal characteristics or background.

Culturally Responsive Engagement: Research and editorial practice that respects the distinct rights, knowledge systems, and protocols of Indigenous and other communities.
