Copyright, Licensing & IP

Policy Statement

Authors retain copyright in articles published in PJN, while granting PJN the right of first publication and the non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, and disseminate the work in print, electronic, and other appropriate formats, and to transmit metadata and content to indexing and preservation services.

PJN publishes its open-access scholarly content under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial 4.0 International (CC BY NC 4.0) License, unless otherwise indicated. Under this license, others may copy, distribute, display, adapt, and build upon the published work, for non-commercial purposes, provided appropriate credit is given to the authors, the original publication in PJN is acknowledged, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made are indicated.

Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission for copyrighted material owned by third parties (such as figures, tables, or images from other sources) that is included in their manuscripts; material not covered by the article's Creative Commons license is clearly identified. Applicable copyright and licensing information is displayed on each published article and on the PJN website.

1. Scope and Applicability

This policy applies to every article published in PJN, and to the terms under which the public may reuse them, taking effect at acceptance and continuing indefinitely. It excludes third-party material that authors do not own.

2. Definitions

Copyright: The legal ownership of an original work, including the right to control its reproduction and distribution.

CC BY NC 4.0: A Creative Commons license allowing reuse and adaptation of a work for non-commercial purposes, provided the original authors and PJN are credited.

Third-Party Material: Content within an article, such as a photograph or figure, that the authors do not own and license separately.
